With this Dixon® Ticonderoga® Woodcase Pencil, HB #2, Yellow Barrel, 96ct. pack you really are receiving The World's Best Pencil™. Ticonderoga pencils' bulk are made of high-quality cedar that is smoothed to a satin finish for the most comfortable writing experience. A favorite among teachers, students and professionals, Ticonderoga pencils contain an exclusive graphite formula writing core that provides smooth, tug-free writing performance, while premium latex-free erasers allow for effortless, clean corrections.
How Are Ticonderoga Pencils Made?
The pencils in your Ticonderoga Woodcase Pencil, HB #2, Yellow Barrel pack are made with high-quality materials in order to produce The World's Best Pencil. Ticonderoga pencils must first start as seven-inch, 100% American, high-quality incense cedar slats. Next, several small grooves are cut into the cedar slat to hold the exclusive graphite formula writing cores. Then, the writing cores are glued into place inside the grooves and another grooved cedar slat is glued on top of the first cedar slat/writing core unit to create a "slat sandwich". Next, a machine is used to cut out each individual pencil. From there, each of the Ticonderoga pencils are smoothed, shaped, painted, stamped with the Ticonderoga emblem and given one of the company's premium latex-free erasers. Now the 2HB pencil from Dixon Ticonderoga is ready to be sharpened and used!
What Do the Numbers Mean on the Pencils in Your Ticonderoga Woodcase Pencil, HB #2, Yellow Barrel Pack?
Dixon Ticonderoga pencils have exclusive graphite formula writing cores that are made from a combination of graphite and clay. The ratio of graphite to clay determines how dark or light the mark of the pencil will be based on how hard or soft the writing core is. In America, Ticonderoga pencils are placed in one of 5 categories: 1 – extra soft, 2 – soft, 2.5 – medium, 3 – hard, and 4 – extra hard. The pencil cores with the highest graphite content are the softest, leave the darkest marks and are labeled #1's. Conversely, the cores with the lowest graphite content are the hardest, leave the faintest marks and are labeled #4's.

I've seen and used a lot of pencils in my 70 years. These are among the best I've used in the past. They have a nice octagonal barrel that is not overly fat or too thin. That makes them very good for use in the hand while writing. The HB #2 lead is thick enough and just what is needed for good visibility and reading. I also use them for marking wood before making cuts. The erasers also work as I expect they should on a pencil - not too hard or too soft.

Good Pencils - Like Those Made In The Mid 1900s

One of the best pencil brands at about half the price of office supply stores.

Great Deal

Definitely have gotten better with quality

Great pencil!

Nothing better than these pencils. They don't wear down near as fast as most pencils. And the lead doesn't seem to break off near as easily as others seem to. Which makes them less expensive in the long run.
I also buy these to donate to the school each year and teachers REALLY appreciate these!!

Excellent for kids

I understand the Ticonderoga pencils are highly rated by teachers, so when these came available at a significantly lower price point I scooped up many for my Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes and pencil pack fillers for the Samaritan’s Purse OCC endeavor. I shared the sale to a Shoebox Shoppers page as these pencils are a much needed and sought after item at such a low price. Thanks for the great sale price Walmart!

Great discount on quality pencils

walmart.com

I have to order these pencils because the other brands I have to keep on sharpening the lead since they keep breaking. Most other brands when you sharpen them they break and you have to sharpen it over and over until you have practically no pencil left.

I love these pencils. They are my favorite brand!

Great price for these pencils. Only pencils we use in our Kindergarten class and to buy a pack 12 locally is close to $6, so to get this price on a box of 96 is a steal.. And the free shipping to Alaska is great, although I believe they are shipped from here, as our Sam’s Cub building is now a warehouse/distribution center..

Ticonderoga Pencils

Teachers are asking for this specific brand of pencils at our school. I hope its because they will last all year! Only complaint i have is why are the presharpend ones more expensive?? Technically I'm getting less pencil...so shouldn't that qualify for a price decrease?? Anyways, this is the best price you will find these for.

What teacher wants....

I usually buy this brand of pencil because they are good quality. This year is the first time I ordered them from Sam's, and they're terrible. The point keeps breaking, and then when I go to sharpen it, it just breaks over and over again. Ugh!
Do Not Buy!

Terrible!

Pencils are no good, 8 out of 12 in each box rotten or there's no led, kids have to go thru at least 4 pencils in order to get one to write without point breaking, having to throw away pencils for this purpose is a waste, just sharpening them one after the other not being able to use them is ridiculous
