National Geographic NG114mm Newtonian Telescope with Pan Handle

Get started in the fun and exciting world of astronomy with the National Geographic 114mm Reflecting Telescope. The refracting telescope has a 114mm aperture which means it's great at gobbling up light and giving you a nice view of the heavens under dark skies.

What's this Telescope like?

When it comes to finding the best refractor telescope or even the best portable telescope, a lot will depend on how you want to use it. Telescopes come in a variety of designs and types and what you intend to look at, such as space objects for the moon or planets, has a lot to do with which telescope you should get. This National Geographic telescope has enough aperture (114mm) that it will help illuminate faint targets while also providing enough focal length in order to get great views of the planets in the solar system.

What's Astrophotography?

Astrophotography is taking pictures of the stars and planets, usually using a telescope with a camera attached. The National Geographic 114mm Reflecting Telescope is able to take pictures quite easily, and thanks to the fast focal ratio (f/5.2) the exposure times needed when using this reflecting telescope are much less than others. This translates to better pictures overall.

What Comes with the National Geographic 114mm Reflecting Telescope?

Not only do you get a fantastic telescope with this kit, but you also get a number of other items to help you get going right away. The complete telescope package includes two different eyepieces, one that is 9.7mm and the other that is 26mm. These different eyepieces will help you get different magnifications and fields of view, which is crucial to observe your target correctly. The 114mm telescope also comes with a tripod that is portable and easily set up, so you can take it to your favorite dark site or with you while traveling.

Phone Holder

On our first use, we were able to see Neptune. Worked beautifully. Using Google's free Sky Map app helped to identify it's location in the sky. Being that it was our first telescope, it took a little getting use to on knowing how and when to focus in or out but figured it out eventually. Basically, you want to zoom the focus in all the way but use the widest lens to find and center the object. Then switch to the more powerful lens and zoom the focus back out.

Great purchase, first telescope for a 10 year old.

East assembly and set up. Tricky with the smartphone adapter but as long as you hold onto your phone you should be fine. My 10 year old loves it and is wanting to play outside more. Highly recommend

Awesome and simple

This Telescope is awesome. We've enjoyed seeing the bright, clear images of the moon, some planets, numerous star clusters, while just having family fun! This has a great nighttime view that is easy to focus and maneuver to see everything the kids want to see from our own back yard.

This Telescope is awesome.

This telescope was easy to assemble. I like that you can adjust the height of tripod making it easy for my 5 yo to look through. The viewfinder makes it easy enough to target where you want to look. The picture was easy to focus and very clear. You can view the moon and amaze any child with the detail you can see through telescope. This is a bit large for my 5yo but he feels it’s an “adult” telescope and gets very excited about using it.

Perfect for beginners or kids

Great perfect just what i needed to see the beautiful stars. It is also easy for the kids to use this would make a great gift. I would recommend looking at all the parts to make sure you know exactly what you need to use for each.

Great telescope

You can see a lot of stuff that stands out on the moon looking through it I had a problem hooking my camera to it and getting any kind of picture

Homeowner

The telescope is compact and easy to set-up, which makes for taking it on the go a possibility. However, the product packaging is inconvenient for reusing to pack away and protecting the product in storage. Was almost a full moon when I first utilized the telescope and was able to focus on it without issues. The setup for the phone camera was a bit difficult to utilize. Made it work with an iPhone 13 & 13 mini. iPhone 13 Max didn’t seem to work as well, as the camera lenses didn’t fit within the optical viewing glass. All phones were secure in place during operation.

Functional Beginners Telescope

This telescope is just okay. It pretty good for a first telescope. It was easy to set up and use. Came with 2 extra eyepieces. The phone mount and ability to take pictures with your phone camera was pretty neat

Good for a first telescope

I had my hopes up and usually I don't buy a product and get disappointed but this one let me down it arrived broken and missing a lense, so back to goes.

disappointed

I am an amateur astronomer. I thought i could use this small light weight reflecting telescope with a 4.5" parabolic mirror as a grab-and-go scope. I am dealing with lower back issues and am unable to use my much larger and heavier 12" SkyWatcher flextube dobsonian reflector telescope right now. The problem i had with this National Geographic NG114mm telescope is that the focuser is of such low quality that i was unable to collimate the mirrors with a laser collimator in order to even bring Jupiter or Saturn into focus. If you plan on using this telescope for terrestrial viewing, it will work fairly well. Just know that the image you will see at the eyepiece will be upside down and reversed. An image rectifier eyepiece will fix this issue. I do not recommend this telescope for astronomical use.

Not recommended for astronomical use
