This telescope was easy to assemble. I like that you can adjust the height of tripod making it easy for my 5 yo to look through. The viewfinder makes it easy enough to target where you want to look. The picture was easy to focus and very clear. You can view the moon and amaze any child with the detail you can see through telescope. This is a bit large for my 5yo but he feels it’s an “adult” telescope and gets very excited about using it.

Perfect for beginners or kids

Always wanted a telescope and so glad we came across this one. I've been looking at stars for years. And now my oldest son is interested. This telescope is really easy to use. The legs are adjustable. There is a laser light so you can focus on the star or constellation. There is an app you can dowload on your phone and use it to see the constellations. We haven't done that.  If we do I will update this review. Really nice product for the price.

Great starter teleacope

Very cool!  I have bought my kids many of these but this is the best by far.  Love how you can use your phone to take pictures.  Not too difficult to setup or get the hang of.  Woukd definitely recommend as a great christmas or holiday gift!

Very cool!

I have no experience with telescopes but my oldest daughter and I managed to put this together quickly. The biggest thing I didn’t know was that when taking it outside it takes a while for the lenses to defog. Once the lens was clear it was no only easy to see but my oldest was able to use her phone and take pictures with her iPhone.

The telescope was easy to put together. I like that it came with different lenses. It also has a place where you can put your cellphone on and other people can see what you are seeing through the lenses. Camera zoomed all the way in. If someone was passionate about getting into astrology and looking at the surface of the moon, I would suggest getting different lenses for it and it’s a little difficult to use the redeye finder.

Grazing into the sky

The National Geographic NG114mm telescope is a good starter telescope. I was excited to have the option to shoot photos through the telescope with my iPhone. However, that has been challenging. With multiple lenses, it is difficult to line up, focus, and shoot. I got it to work, but I had to hold the phone the whole time. Maybe it will get better with practice.

Great starter telescope

The telescope is compact and easy to set-up, which makes for taking it on the go a possibility. However, the product packaging is inconvenient for reusing to pack away and protecting the product in storage. Was almost a full moon when I first utilized the telescope and was able to focus on it without issues. The setup for the phone camera was a bit difficult to utilize. Made it work with an iPhone 13 & 13 mini. iPhone 13 Max didn’t seem to work as well, as the camera lenses didn’t fit within the optical viewing glass. All phones were secure in place during operation.

Functional Beginners Telescope

This telescope is just okay. It pretty good for a first telescope. It was easy to set up and use. Came with 2 extra eyepieces. The phone mount and ability to take pictures with your phone camera was pretty neat

Good for a first telescope

This is a pretty solid beginner telescope. It's light, and very transportable, which makes it easy to bring out and set up quickly. It does provide great viewing. The magnification is excellent, which provides for great images. There are a few small drawbacks I have found, and the reason for only three stars. The setup instructions leave a little bit to be desired, especially for someone who is not familiar with the operation of this type of reflector telescope. The site setup is somewhat of a challenge and takes a bit of effort to get lined up correctly. Finally, the phone mount is a great idea, but it does not seem to work well with any of our phone cases, so I would definitely recommend removing your case before trying to use the phone attachment for risk of damaging your phone, and even then be very cautious of the suction cups holding an expensive device. Overall, its a decent started telescope for the price point.

Nice starter telescope for the price

Starting with the positives - the quality lenses of seeing the moon and stars is what one would expect. I could see craters on the moon and way more stars compared to the naked eye. My kids were so excited to get this! My 11 year old was able to use it in his own with adjusting and locating celestial objects. 

Negatives: the construction is lacking. The thin aluminum legs have a height adjust or which immediately broke so now it’s always at the shorter level. See pictures below of the metal piece that falls out when trying to extend and then tighten the legs. The other issue occurs when locating and adjusting the telescope. It’s finicky in that I can get the item in view and as I go to tighten it, the item immediately moves often out of view in the lens. I’ve never used another telescope so I don’t know if this is normal, but will definitely take practice to adjust and hold without the item in view moving out of the frame.

Telescope works well though not great construction

I knew this was an “entry-level” telescope, but was hoping for a little better quality. Assembly was very straight-forward despite a complete lack to coherent direction. The issue began when trying to attach the “pivot” arm that adjusts the angle of the telescope. It was machined incorrectly and the alignment is off enough that it was nearly impossible to thread and barely holds the telescope in place for viewing. The slightest bump and the telescope falls completely forward or back. (I had 4 different adults attempt to tighten the arm and all were unsuccessful.)

The second issue is with the legs. I am glad they are adjustable, but I feel like the mechanism to lock them in place could be better. Most tripods I have seen use a simple ‘squeeze’ lever that can easily be operated and raised or lowered with one hand. This one definitely can not. The locks need to be twisted and you have to push the leg up from the bottom. With how top-heavy the telescope is, this makes height adjustments very difficult. 

Lastly, only about half of the people who tried (we brought it out during a family gathering of 12 adults and 18 kids) could see anything through the telescope. I read in another review that you weren’t supposed to use your eye to look through he eyepiece, only the phone attachment, so perhaps that was the issue. We haven’t yet used the phone option. 

Overall, the telescope was not successful for us. We are going to keep trying, though, because I have an 11-year-old currently obsessed with astronomy. Either have to make this one work, or upgrade to a more expensive one, because the bug has bitten!!

Disappointed, but willing to keep trying
